If there is one race that every Formula 1 driver dreams of winning one day, it is the one of Monaco. The urban layout of the Principality has seen the greatest drivers win, with Ayrton Senna who has had the most victories, as mentor. The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the oldest and one of the three most prestigious races in the world, held on an urban circuit designed in 1929 by Antony Noghès, son of the president of the Monaco Automobile Club at that time. It was only on May 21st 1950 that the first Formula 1 drivers were able to take the streets of the Principality.
The creation of the urban circuit was a response to the challenge of organising a competition on the limited territory of Monaco. It is the slowest circuit of the world championship with a non-permanent 3.34km track, which is laid out in the streets of the city. Due to its length, the Grand Prix is limited to 78 laps and the average speed is 147.312 km/h.
It should be noted that this circuit places very different demands on the cars compared to the majority of other circuits used during a championship season. The cars are mounted with a high contact force in order to shorten braking times and maintain the stability of the cars during acceleration.
