FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX MONACO 2024

It is probably the most significant event of the year in the Principality. Coming from all over the world, a crowd of visitors flock to the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco to attend this prestigious Formula 1 race. With its unique and demanding circuit, laid out in the heart of the city, this competition constitutes one of the stages flagships of the Formula 1 world championship.

Like every edition, the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco 2024 event will be organized by the Automobile Club of Monaco. This race is one of the oldest in the world, founded in 1929. It was in fact that year that Antony Noghès, general commissioner of the club, made the crazy bet of organizing a car race in the heart of the small Monegasque territory. With the help of driver Louis Chiron, he designed an urban circuit in the streets of the Principality. The first Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix event was held on April 14, 1929, won by British driver William Gover-Williams. The Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco event became an official event of the F1 World Championship upon its creation in 1950. Since then, the big names in motorsport have left their mark on this competition with its demanding track.
Mythical turns and chicanes on the Monaco circuit

Weeks before the event, impressive logistics are put in place to install the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco circuit in the heart of the city. Traced below the Rock and the Prince's Palace, it winds through the streets of Port Hercule, Monte-Carlo and La Condamine. At 3.34 km long, it is the shortest in the Formula 1 World Championship but also the most difficult. Narrow track, tight turns, chicanes and short straights are real challenges for drivers to overcome. Without forgetting the tunnel, the fastest part of the circuit. In these conditions, overtaking is rare and dangerous. The Sainte-Dévote bend, the Fairmont bend (the slowest in F1), and the exit from the tunnel are among the strategic points of the circuit. Around the port, the bends of the Bureau de Tabac, de la Piscine and la Rascasse provide a spectacle: cars frequently brush against the safety rails. In Monaco more than elsewhere, runners must rely on their agility and concentration to make the difference. It is this same circuit which is also used for two other major motorsport events, the Monaco Historic Grand Prix and the Monaco E-Prix.
For a long time, the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco event took place over 4 days, the Ascension weekend. Free practice was then scheduled for Thursday. Now organized during a weekend in May, the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco event is held over 3 days (Thursday being reserved for Formula 2 tests). A particularity of the route in the heart of the city, the circuit closes its doors to traffic in the early morning, before reopening in the evening after the races. Throughout the weekend, it is therefore possible to explore it on foot or by car in the evening to better get the pulse of the event. From noon on Friday, the drivers set off for free practice. On Saturday afternoon, it's time for qualifying to get the best time. On a circuit which offers few overtaking possibilities, these sessions are known to be essential: the driver who starts in pole position has a good chance of climbing to the top of the podium. That said, without counting the twists and turns that motorsport has in store... A prediction to check on Sunday, D-day of the race. After the drivers' presentation at the start of the afternoon, the cars take their positions on the starting grid. After the national anthem, it kicks off for 78 laps of pure adrenaline.
The legendary duels of the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix

An essential event in the F1 World Championship calendar, the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco event sees the champions of the discipline compete. Its editions are marked by neck-to-neck battles of legendary drivers. In the 1960s, the British Graham Hill (in the BRM team) and Jim Clark (Lotus) were the great rivals in the championship. Hill won the 1963 edition, taking advantage of a mechanical failure by Clark, who had started in pole position. With this first of a total of five victories at the Monaco GP, Hill forever marked the history of Monegasque competition. Noted since the 1984 edition for a spectacular comeback against the most famous French driver Alain Prost, the Brazilian Ayrton Senna won six times in Monaco between 1987 and 1993, an absolute record. Another great champion, the German Michael Schumacher won five trophies in Monaco between 1994 and 2001. However, we remember his demotion to last position on the starting line in 2006, penalized for having prevented Fernando Alonso from improving his time.
